The 2020 Subaru Legacy was one of the prominent highlights for Subaru automakers at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show. Representatives also confirmed the 2020 Subaru Outback will get a dramatic redesign. Many of the changes are expected to mimic that of the 2020 Subaru Legacy.

The changes make sense since many consider the Subaru Outback to be a wagon-like variant of the Subaru Legacy. At the Chicago Auto Show, we learned that the upcoming Subaru Legacy will have plenty of upgrades, such as a new platform for improved handling. The platform in question is the Subaru Global Platform, which has higher rigidity and is already in use by the 2019 Subaru Forester and 2019 Subaru Impreza.

The upper-tier trim Subaru Legacy will also upgrade to the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, and the Subaru Outback may follow suit. This is the same engine originally introduced in the three-row 2019 Subaru Ascent. Also, the Subaru Legacy will have in-car Wi-Fi, a first for a Subaru vehicle, and the 2020 Subaru Outback could be second.

As for the exterior, expect a greater ground clearance and lowered rear and front bumper bars.

According to the rumor mill, the 2020 Subaru Outback may make its debut as early as April at the 2019 New York Auto Show. If not, then the Los Angeles Auto Show in November is likely.

If you can do without the redesigns and changes, then check out the current 2019 Subaru Outback at Gillman Subaru Southwest.
